I am not fond of bullies of any kind. In fact, I have been very vocal in my condemnation of the radical activists who have been bullying people that contributed to Proposition 8. These radicals have been engaging in the nastiest form of harrassment, including attacking the LDS Church, and pressuring employers until they fire the Prop 8 supporter.
However, I am a little concerned about this recent case of so-called Cyber-Bullying that has been in the news lately.
Apparantly a nutty woman, who was upset at the way a local girl treated her daughter, set up an online account with the purpose of pretending to be a teenaged boy, so that she could emotionally devistated her daughter's enemy. If the story is true as told, the mother is a vile, immature person.
However, these kind of laws have legs if left in the hands of the Lefties.
Will the law stop at preventing people from targeting each other in their personal email and MySpace accounts, or will the Lefties find a way to use these laws to silence anyone who disagrees with them? For example, I recently wrote a blog criticiziing the so-called "Pregnant Man" who I say is actually just a Bearded Lady in a carnival side show. A lot of Lefties took offense at my comments, calling them "hateful." Could I be accused of "Cyber-Bullying" the Bearded Lady/"Pregnant Man?" Could I be hauled into court, merely for writing my personal political opinion on my own blog?
Of course, conservatives would never think of twisting this law to silence their opponents, so once again, the fallout would be one sided.
The Lefties have a history of twisting laws to further their agendas. For example, they used the RICO laws, which were intended to go after the Mob, to silence Operation Rescue. I can see this bullying issue taking on proportions that normal people might never have predicted. It is just another step in the advancement of the totalitarian Left, that conservatives seem to lack the huevos to combat.
